Commission to give IOM 24.1 mln euros to assist migrant children in Greece

The European Commission on Wednesday announced its decision to give 24.1 million euros to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) for the support, assistance and education of the children of migrants in Greece.

The funds will be given by the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) to help Greece manage the challenges of migration.

According to the announcement, IOM will use the funds to ensure that migrants’ children can be immediately placed in a protective environment and receive education. It will mainly support actions linked to providing shelter, medical and psychological support, interpretation and cultural mediation and to provide food for roughly 1,200 unaccompanied minors that are on the Greek islands and mainland, as well as facilitating their education.

It will also be used to help migrants registered with voluntary return and reintegration programmes.
