The municipality of Piraeus and Dimand SA signed a memorandum of understanding to implement an 100-million-euro investment plan for the reconstruction and upgrading of Aghios Dionysios region in Piraeus -where the industrial and warehouse buildings of the former tobacco factory of Papastratos are located, Piraeus mayor Yiannis Moralis said, addressing a Prodexpo congress last week.
Moralis said these building will become live again with modern uses and operation of local and metropolitan nature, contributing in the reviving of the whole region. He noted that the 100-million-euro investment will create several direct and indirect job positions. Moralis said that a “Piraeus 2020” development plan was aimed to transform the city into a touristic, cultural, shipping and commercial destination of international competitiveness and noted that the plan was currently implemented offering fruit through a series of significant initiatives and programs, such as an agreement to ensure an annual income of at least 3.2 pct of Piraeus Port Organization’s turnover for the municipality and said that discussions were currently underway with the new shareholder of Piraeus port for investments to be made in the region. Moralis said that Piraeus was also supporting young entrepreneurs through a Blue Growth Piraeus contest, one of the top four such contests around the world.
