120 migrants arrested after occupying central square in Mytilini to protest hotspot conditions

Police arrested earlier on Monday 120 adult migrants and refugees who were protesting living conditions at the Moria hotspot by camping out on the Sappho Square in Mytilini since last Tuesday.

The 120 included mostly Afghanis, in addition to two Greek protesters, all of whom are facing charges of insubordination to authority and illegal occupation of a public space.

They are being held at a police detention center on the island of Lesvos.

Authorities meanwhile confirmed that the number of people injured at clashes with police and taken to hospital for checking after the Monday night clashes with police totaled thirty. The injuries were mostly from stones, with some admitted with breathing problems from teargas.
