Two thousand Covid-19 diagnostic tests will be carried out immediately at the refugee reception and identification facility at Moria, Lesvos, the President of the National Public Health Organization Panagiotis Arkoumaneas said at Lesvos on Thursday.
The decision comes after Moria hotspot was on Wednesday placed in a 14-day quarantine, following the Tuesday night infection confirmation of a 40-year-old Somali resident refugee who was eventually admitted to Mytilini general hospital.
Speaking at Mytilini, Arkoumaneas added that Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias has ordered the immediate hiring of additional doctors to staff both Mytilini general hospital and the Moria facility.
“We will take all necessary measures to ensure public health on the island,” he noted.
Entrance and exit from the Moria hotspot is strictly forbidden until September 15.
