Hundreds of schools were occupied nationwide in protest sit-ins as of Monday morning, by secondary education students who also demonstrated against educational reforms, the exam topics pool, teacher and textbook shortages and school building problems, among others.
On Crete, roughly 30 schools were occupied in the prefecture of Iraklio, while other 15 high schools and lyceums are occupied in the prefecture of Lassithi. A number of schools are also occupied in Rethymno, while 19 of the 50 schools in Hania were under student occupation.
Students in the prefectures of Achaia, Ilia and Aetoloakarnania in southern Greece, occupied roughly 100 schools corresponding to 30 pct of the schools operating in western Greece, while mobilisations were underway in schools in eastern Peloponnese.
A total of 39 schools were occupied in the region of Epirus, northwest Greece.
According to Education Minister, Andreas Loverdos, over 500 schools are occupied nationwide.
