5G broadband networks auction completed on schedule, E-Governance minister tells Digital Forum

Greece is officially entering the digital age, as the public auction of the 5G broadband frequency networks has been completed, said Digital Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis at the “Digital Economy Forum 2020: Building a Digital Greece” on Wednesday.

The minister told the online forum organized by the Hellenic Labor Inspectorate (SEPE) that the project was fully on schedule with the timeline set in 2019, “which foresaw that we would have completed the auction by end-2020.”

He said that “it is the first time the state has auctioned four broadband frequencies in a single auction,” adding that this required more than 70 administrative and legislative actions, to reach the current target in a little over 12 months.

Among other actions of the government to push the country’s digitization, Pierrakakis mentioned the government’s online courses platform for the upscaling of digital skills (Citizens’ Digital Academy), which offers 214 courses over 30 thematic sections, offering a total of over 1,800 hours of digital training.
