Main opposition New Democracy on Tuesday criticised the government’s handling of the affair that culminated in the expulsion of two Russian diplomats, especially its failure to brief parliament on the details.

While every attempt at foreign intervention in the domestic affairs of a country must be immediately dealt with, an ND announcement said, “it is unacceptable in such a serious issue for the government to make do with leaks and the only information reaching the citizens and political parties to come from media information and unnamed sources.”

“ND has asked the government to brief parliament. Even more so when some of the individuals involved in the case had, until recently, privileged connections with members of the SYRIZA-ANEL government,” the announcement said.

The announcement also criticised government suggestions that the illegal action of the Russian diplomats was in any way linked to the opposition to the Prespes Agreement.
