Main opposition SYRIZA’s shadow defence minister Thodoris Dritsas on Wednesday called for a thorough investigation into the weaponry that has gone missing from a Hellenic Navy facility on the island of Leros, adding that SYRIZA’s parliamentary group will ask for an official briefing on this issue at the appropriate time.

“From the first moment we have been following the investigation into this, to say the least strange, loss of weaponry and ammunition from the military facility on Leros with the necessary seriousness but also with concern. We are responsibly and deliberately avoiding to make use of the situation for petty political purposes and we await the result of the investigation, while we also expect the government to adopt the same stance towards us,” he said.

“The issue is very serious. The goverment must ensure a full, efficient and unbiased investigation and protect the prestige of the Armed Forces,” Dritsas added.
