Chaos existed on migration when SYRIZA became government, Vitsas says

“When SYRIZA became government in 2015, it received a chaos on migration,” SYRIZA’s deputy and Parliament Vice President Dimitris Vitsas said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Sunday.

He admitted that mistakes may have been made after the outbreak of the crisis and the huge increase in flows, but he noted that the management has been quite effective in general.

He said that New Democracy criticised SYRIZA last year because 7,000 migrants and refugees were living in Moria camp. Now, the number has exceeded 12,000, as he said and asked the government to comment on the current situation.

Regarding the procedure of sending back migrants and refugees, he said that it is a time consuming and not simple procedure.
