PM Mitsotakis meets with UN Secretary General Guterres

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met on Thursday with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the organisation’s headquarters in New York in the context of the 77th UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, according to government sources, international and regional issues were discussed, especially issues of Greek interest.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, Mitsotakis underlined that the attitude of Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot side amounts to a complete rejection of the decisions of the UN Security Council for a peaceful and fair settlement of the Cyprus issue within the framework of a bizonal, bicommunal federation.

The prime minister, according to the same sources, also informed the Secretary General about Turkish provocativeness, which is manifested both in the scaling up of illegal claims and on a rhetorical level. He reiterated that Athens always acts on the basis of International Law, the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the principles of good neighbourliness.
