The government is considering the possibility of limiting the opening hours of stores, with the aim of reducing energy consumption.

The issue is expected to be discussed on Wednesday, October 5, at a meeting between Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis and representatives of the supermarkets and SELPE (Hellenic Retail Business Association).

The proposal that is under discussion and concerns the possible reduction of the operation of the stores by 2 hours per day is estimated to bring about a 50% reduction in energy consumption for these hours or 5%-7.5% of the total daily cost.
