Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a meeting with President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday expressed his deep concern for the death of innocent children in the Golan Heights, which proves once again the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
“I think that the international community cannot remain indifferent to this humanitarian tragedy which is taking place in the Gaza Strip and which unfortunately has many collateral losses and I want you to know that Greece is systematically working in this direction,” he added.
Referring to electricity prices, he noted: “The government is monitoring developments in the energy market very carefully. A very sharp rise in wholesale energy prices across Eastern Europe and the Balkans has been recorded lately. As a result, energy producers have recorded skyrocketing profits. The government will tax these profits by imposing an extraordinary levy as it has done in the past, sending a message that the Greek consumer cannot pay for any malfunctions in an energy market that. I am happy because in the last few days, possibly as a result of the government’s announcements, prices have returned to normal levels but everyone should know that at any moment the government will be ready to intervene in order to correct distortions in the market.”
On her part, the President of the Republic stated: “The crisis in the Middle East is indeed tragic, the situation is tragic, hospitals, schools are affected, the losses to the civilian population are tragic. Efforts to achieve a cease-fire should be exhausted. The situation cannot remain as it is.”
