The new digital service of Gov.gr Wallet marks “the start of a new era”, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou said on Thursday in an interview.

The new service will offer citizens the possibility to give their consent for the disclosure of their personal data to public and private bodies.  In cooperation with the Environment Ministry, the service will be extended so that citizens will give their consent via Gov.gr Wallet to energy providers.

This new tool will abolish the ten most popular certificates, such as birth certificates, marital status certificates, etc. The citizen will be asked to give his consent in order to obtain the required data for the new contract he has requested with a message in his wallet. “It’s time to abolish bureaucracy, it’s a big change,” said the minister and referred to the National Cyber Security Authority, which “comes to talk about cyber security but also about procedures that we all have to follow, state and private sector. However, we also need to use as much technology as we can and feel safe.”

On the digitisation of the Cadastre, he noted that “it will be completed next year” saying that artificial intelligence tools are being used.

Regarding the issuance of the personal number, he said that “we are done with all the legal issues, we will press the ‘button’ as soon as everyone is coordinated, the summer is not the right time even though formally and legally we are absolutely ready.”
