FM Gerapetritis: Greece becoming stronger, expanding its international relations with confidence

Greece is “becoming stronger, it is growing, it increases its international capital with self-confidence and strength,” Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis told journalists on the third day of the 79th UN General Assembly Session on Wednesday.

Gerapetritis said he attended the Transatlantic Dinner hosted by US State Secretary Antony Blinken on Tuesday evening, while on Wednesday he held a series of meetings “that highlight exactly Greece’s upgraded role, ahead additionally of our country’s participation as elected non-permanent member on the United Nations Organization’s Security Council.”

The meetings he mentioned were with the secretary general of the Arab League, the president of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the commissioner-general of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Gerapetritis highlighted his “especially important” meeting with the Indian foreign minister, as Greece and India have strong diplomatic ties in economy, shipping, energy, investments, and strategic/geostrategic issues. Of particular note is Greece’s participation in the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), he added.

The Greek FM also revealed that he would be meeting with his counterpart from China.
