FM Gerapetritis at UN: Greece becoming stronger, its diplomatic footprint exceptionally greater

Greece’s international footprint in New York is exceptionally important, Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis told national broadcaster ERT on Thursday.

On the fourth day of the UN General Assembly Session’s works, Gerapetritis said, “Today concludes the week of the General Assembly at which Greek diplomacy had the opportunity for very significant meetings, and a very significant presence. Greece’s international footprint in New York is exceptionally important.”

The FM said Greece had the opportunity to speak with foreign ministers from all European countries, the Arab world, and the United States. “It was an opportunity to highlight the issues that are at this time at the center of interest, such as the Middle East crisis, Ukraine, and other urgent issues,” Gerapetritis noted.

“We had the opportunity to talk with international organizations to see the current state of the international architecture of security. The same as with foreign ministers of large countries such as China and India,” he said.

Gerapetritis referred to the election of Greece as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, pointing out that this made Greece stronger and its diplomatic impact greater.

“It is a time of responsibility, and we shall assume this responsibility to carry out this significant role allocated to Greece on the international stage,” the FM underlined.
