The president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Sofia Kounenaki Efraimoglou, recently had a meeting with the new ambassador of Bangladesh in Athens, Nahida Rahman Shumona. Also present at the meeting was Michalis Kandarakis, member of the Board of Directors who is responsible for Bangladesh.
The strengthening of bilateral relations dominated the meeting, as they stand at low levels. Furthermore, it was found that there are many fields of cooperation between the two countries and that business opportunities present themselves mainly in the fields of pharmaceutical products, construction and building materials, organic textiles, jewelry and shipping.
Special mention was made of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Hellenic Republic in 2022, which facilitates the arrival of labour from Bangladesh to Greece and has had a positive impact on the shortage of skilled labour in Greece in recent years.
Finally, the possibility of organising an information event for Bangladesh in February 2025 was explored.
