Most cyberattacks in Greece go unreported

Most cyberattacks in Greece are not reported as entities do not realize that their systems have been compromised, the head of the National Cybersecurity Authority has said.

Addressing the annual conference of the Institute of Internal Auditors Greece, Michail Bletsas, who is also the director of computing at MIT’s Media Lab, added that major cyberattacks occur because many entities cannot upgrade their systems because, especially in the public sector, there is no money to do so.

He pointed out, however, that financial assistance is available for system upgrades.

Bletsas said the country still has a long way to go in terms of internet security training in relation to artificial intelligence and deep fakes.

A new draft law on cybersecurity will increase reporting requirements in relation to cybersecurity issues, which must be reported immediately, he continued.
