The debate among the four candidates for leadership of SYRIZA will take place on Wednesday, November 20.
According to party sources, the issue was discussed in the party’s Political Secretariat meeting on Tuesday. The debate details are under discussion with national broadcaster ERT, which will host it, and quite possibly take place at 21:00 that day. It will include both specific themes, as well as impromptu dialog among candidates, they said.
Regarding the election for party leader within the next few days, the election committee will be announced shortly. The voting will not include an online option, while those wishing to vote will register by paying 2 euros.
The data submitted by candidate Pavlos Polakis on Stefanos Kasselakis’ source-of-wealth (pothen esches) declaration is with the party and can be requested by any authority that requests it, such as the relevant committee in Parliament, they said.
Among other issues, the members meeting decided to request a briefing to parties by the prime minister on Greek-Turkish relations after the Greek and Turkish foreign ministers met and ahead of the continuation of talks.
Election
The election of a president “is the first great step for SYRIZA-PA’s new dynamic course,” the party said in the final decision text issued at the meeting.
“We call on any left, progressive, democratic citizen to participate in elections for the party’s president on November 24, and if needed to the second round on December 1,” it said.
At the extraordinary congress, it said, “a very difficult cycle” ended for the party, which is “the common home of all who belong to the political and ideological space extending from the radical Left to social democracy and the progressive center.”
