The transformation of the house of Greek poet Yannis Ritsos (1909-1990), located within the castle town of Monemvasia in Laconia, into a municipal museum is nearing completion, with its opening anticipated by mid-2025. The aim is to create an exhibition space that will celebrate the poet’s life and his deep connection to this place. The municipality purchased the house in 2021 from Ritsos’ daughter, Ere, who also donated the home’s furniture, paintings and photographs to serve as centerpiece exhibits in the museum. Ritsos, the youngest in a large family with Cretan roots, lived in this house until he finished school. At 16, he left for Athens in 1925, following a series of family losses.
