Vassilissis Olgas, by Zappeion, to open as redone pedestrian walkway in March 2025

Vassilissis Olgas Street, between Hadrian’s Arch and the Panathenaic Stadium, will reopen as a landscaped pedestiran walkway in March 2025, the responsible company’s chief told the Athens Municipal Council during its meeting on Monday.

Anaplassis SA (‘Anaplasis Dimosion Choron SA’) CEO Polychronios Akritidis briefed the Council on the issue and its budget and attributed the delays to archaeological findings.

He also said however that following a request by the Zappeion board of directors and by decision of the Central Archaeological Council, the entrance and exit of vehicles to supply Aegli cafe on one side and the Tennis Club, on the tram side of the street, were approved. The decision led to protests by most Athens Council members.

Athens Mayor Haris Doukas commented that the project must finish. “They have told us the cost will be greater. We are focusing on the fact that Vassilissis Olgas will open in March.”
