Labor ministry to upgrade workplace health and safety framework

The Ministry of Labor and Social Security plans to upgrade the current institutional framework for health and security at work under the new challenges arising daily from technological advances and an increasing utilization of digital tools and AI systems, as well as climate change effects.

The aim is to protect professional health and safety, mostly at the prevention level, Deputy Labor Minister Kostas Karagounis stated.

Today’s challenges demand contemporary approaches to the Code of Laws for Health and Safety, he said, especially in upgrading legislation to prevent accidents, particularly in highly dangerous activities.

The challenge for the ministry, Karagounis added, is to recognize emerging physical and mental health threats from the incorporation of digital reality in productivity, while guaranteeing that legislation is observed.
