A total of 1,388 traffic, policing and citizen safety cameras will be operational 24 hours a day and will digitally record offences from the summer of 2025, according to the government’s plan unveiled on Thursday by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrisohoidis, Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and the regional governor of Attica Nikos Hardalias.
The new cameras will digitally certify violations:
– exceeding the speed limit
– red light violation
– mobile phone use
– illegal use of auxiliary lane
– driving a vehicle without insurance
– circulation of a vehicle without a valid KTEO (Vehicle Technical Check Centre) card.
The fines will be confirmed by the traffic police and will be sent to citizens’ inboxes on gov.gr, while the payment and any objections will be made digitally.
Greek Police will have exclusive access, imposing the prescribed penalties on the offenders, in accordance with what is defined by the Road Traffic Code.
