The president of the Supreme Court, Ioanna Klapa, has issued a directive to all first-instance courts across the country, emphasizing their responsibility to assign judges for urgent trial cases during weekends and public holidays.
“You are required to designate judges for urgent trial cases on weekends and public holidays, ensuring they are available at all times to carry out their duties,” the directive states, warning that failure to comply could jeopardize citizens’ legal rights and undermine confidence in the judiciary.
The directive comes in the wake of a recent fatal car accident in Crete, in which it was revealed that the driver, who had been arrested twice for driving under the influence within 24 hours, was not detained.
