Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a series of initiatives that will allow citizens to share in the dividends of growth in Greece over the next two years, while addressing a gathering of residents at Livadia, Central Greece, on Thursday.

The premier said “the best is yet to come” and said it is not possible to have a good showing of economic indexes and yet have citizens feel they can hardly meet their needs financially. “These two factors should be coordinated, and that is the first and basic, unnegotiable priority of our own policy,” he added.

Mitsotakis referred to complaints over local issues, one of which relates to staffing at the Livadia Hospital and the other to water shortage problems farmers in Kopaida face. On the latter, the premier said that he will call a meeting with the water company to look at the irrigation issues in the area.

The PM also referred to the funding allocated for the region, the trade war initiated by the American president and its repercussions, and said that Greece is no longer the black sheep of Europe but it continues to play a leading role, joining European leaders at the table about the future. He also spoke of the Armed Forces armaments program for the next 12 years, needed in an increasingly turbulent world, and reiterated that national elections will take place as scheduled at the end of his government’s second-year term.

“I insist that in the next two years you will see many of the projects which are unfolding now be presented to citizens. And you will see the results of our economic policy reflected in your own pockets, your own financial capabilities,” the PM said.
