Greece’s negotiations with its international lenders are tough but it is the last round before the country’s exit from the bailout agreement, Government Vice-President Evangelos Venizelos told reporters on Monday, after his meeting with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Finance Minister Gikas Hardouvelis.
“The negotiation is tough bit it’s the last negotiation before our exit from the memorandum and the troika supervision,” Venizelos said, adding the government now has a double target; to complete the last troika review and plan the next phase for Greece within the EU framework.
Asked when the troika will return to Athens, the minister said it will return “in time, so that everything will have finished by December 8, for the Eurogroup meeting.” He also said Greece will have an agreement with its lenders before the election for a new President, so that the country will be able to turn a new page “in a safe way.”
Asked what the government’s response is to troika’s pressures, Venizelos said “there are no pressures by the troika, there’s a negotiation that is taking place… on many levels, and is therefore complicated.”
