Main opposition leader Antonis Samaras expressed his concern for Greece’s path and the possibility of a rift with Europe in a meeting with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Thursday.

The leader of New Democracy (ND) said the country’s cornerstone national policy of keeping pace with Europe, is threatened, adding this “would be a nightmare for the Greek people, the country’s credibility, the future of our children and the country’s security.”

He said Greece belongs in Europe and the Eurozone and this belief is a non-negotiable red line for the party as well as the majority of the Greek people. “No government has the right to question or threaten it,” Samaras noted.

On his side, Pavlopoulos said he knows Samaras’ unwavering commitments to a European future and expressed his belief that the leader of ND will do his part in securing the country’s course in Europe.
