New Democracy leader Vangelis Meimarakis said on Tuesday that if his party wins the elections on September 20, the first person he will ask to form a government is SYRIZA’s Alexis Tsipras.
“If ND wins the elections, I will first go to Alexis Tsipras to form a government,” he told private radio station Vima FM.
“We have a very tough reality which cannot be tackled with supposedly leftist or center-right ideas. There might be better people out there, but luck has it that the people must decide between Tsipras and me,” he added. However, Meimarakis was very critical of Tsipras and SYRIZA, arguing that “they are involved with vested interests to their core, just like their [former] colleagues revealed.”
