A one-year old boy died in the sea region north of Lesvos island late on Thursday.
A vessel of the Greek Coast Guard rescued 56 refugees, including the little boy that was unconscious. However, despite the efforts of the Coast Guard and volunteer doctors, the child lost his battle for life.
When he was transferred to the health center of the area, the doctors confirmed his death. During the night, the Coast Guard rescued another 118 refugees on a dinghy that was sinking in the sea region off Lesvos.
Around 2,000 refugees have disembarked on Lesvos over the last 24 hours.
