Achtsioglou briefs Jeremy Corbyn, McDonnell on Greek economy

Greece’s Labour Minister Efi Achtsioglou met the head of the UK’s Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn and shadow chancellor of the exchequer John McDonnell in London on Wednesday, briefing them on the progress of the Greek economy.

According to a post on Achtsioglou’s Facebook account, she also informed them about the negotiations between the Greek government, the European institutions and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), as well as the implementation of the government’s “parallel programme”.

Corbyn expressed solidarity with the Greek government’s work and his willingness for further cooperation and support of Greek positions on a European level, Achtsioglou said.

She is scheduled to speak at an event organised by the Greece Solidarity Campaign in the House of Commons on Wednesday, with the participation of MPs from the Labour Party, Scottish National Party, Plaid Cymru-Party of Wales and the Greens, as well as trade unionists.
