After xix months, restaurants and bars reopen on Easter Monday

Restaurants, bars and cafes reopen on Easter Monday without music and exclusively outdoors until 22:45. Citizens should send an SMS with code number 6 to 13033 before leaving home. The use of mask is mandatory and only six people are allowed in every table. Delivery, take away and drive through services may operate after 22:45.

President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday sent her own message in a post on her twitter account on the reopening.

“First day with the restaurants and cafes open even on restrictions. Enjoying a coffee with doctors from Evangelismos and Sotiria hospitals, we are experiencing again the small pleasures of everyday life which we considered self-evident before the pandemic deprived them from us”

“We reopened the restaurants and bars but the virus has not left yet. The signal that the danger is over has not been sent yet” state Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis speaking to the public broadcaster ERT on Easter Monday explaining that “Nobody wants to limit anyone’s freedom but the virus should be held under control”.

“Up to six people in each table, code number 6 and departure time 22:45”, reminded Georgiadis adding that our aim is, with the opening of tourism on May 15, to announce extended opening hours “always under the condition that the virus will continue its downward trend. Every week the Committee of Epidemiologists will continue to convene. Today we do not return to our old life but we are taking a step towards normality” he said.
