Air Algerie loses contact with plane

The announcement of Air Algerie airline on Thursday noon that it lost contact with one of its aircrafts, almost an hour after its takeoff from Burkina Faso, West Africa has awakened fears of a new air disaster.

According to the announcement, the plane was flying from Ouagadougou to Algiers and was chartered by the Spanish private company, Swiftair.

Air Algerie’s announcement said air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane about 50 minutes after it took off.

In a statement issued in Spanish the company clarified that the aircraft was an MD83 and not an Airbus A320, as the international media initially reported.
