Air traffic controllers union calls off strikes

The Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association (GATCHA) on Saturday announced the suspension of four days of strike action due to start on Sunday, following a meeting with Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Minister Christos Spirtzis.

Emerging from the meeting, GATCHA President Serafeim Petrou said that “dark areas” in recently passed legislation had been cleared up after a “fruitful and constructive dialogue with the minister” and that he would recommend a suspension of strike action.

An announcement later issued by the union’s board said the 24-hour rolling strikes had been called off after the talks with Spirtzis and the head of Greece’s Civil Aviation Authority Constantinos Lintzerakos, which had clarified certain points and made specific commitments.
