Alternate FM Katrougalos: Solution over FYROM name issue now possible

A solution to the FYROM name issue is possible, since a change in the other side’s position has opened a window of opportunity, Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos told Praktoreio 104.9 FM, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency’s radio station, on Wednesday.

“I am optimistic that a solution to the FYROM name issue will be found since there is a window of opportunity has opened by other side’s change of stance,” Katrougalos said, adding that Greece’s stance has also changed, as the current government is against inertia.

“It is not just a negotiation within the framework of the United Nations, it is also a negotiation between two sides,” Katrougalos explained, adding, “We are in favour of the European and international prospect of the western Balkans. The neighbouring country is interested in improving our relations and joining international organizations, but we also have a similar interest in having no tensions in our region.”
