Amendment lowering VAT for islands on frontline of refugee crisis tabled in Parliament

An amendment lowering VAT for the islands of Leros, Lesvos, Kos, Samos and Chios, from 24 pct to 13 pct, was tabled in Parliament on Thursday, attached to a draft bill dealing with mental health issues.

The amendment effectively extends reduced VAT rates for the islands of the eastern Aegean that are on front lines of the refugee crisis. The lower VAT rate that applied for all Greek islands until now is due to expire on December 31 and rise to the same level as the rest of Greece.
