Archaeological site & museum guards protest over pay for overtime duty

Guards of archaeological sites and museums said they will not work “at any type of event outside the sites’ hours of operation,” in statements on Tuesday.

The National Union of Antiquities Guards (PEYFA) said that when they work overtime they should be paid overtime, and organizers of events at these locations should pay fees so the state does not lose money.

“The uncontrollable use of any type of event which insults the monuments and the sites is unacceptable,” they said, adding that they have a scheduled meeting with the culture deputy minister on June 8 about the issue.
