Archbishop expresses solidarity with earthquake victims in Lesvos

Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos II, expressed his solidarity with the earthquake victims of Lesvos during a visit to the island on Wednesday, accompanied by members of Church NGO “Apostoli”.
Ieronymos visited with the metropolitans of Mytilene and Mithymna the damaged Church of Aghios Athanasios on Mytileneand then went to the village of Vrisa, in southern Lesvos, which was flattened by the earthquake.

“This is a great destruction in a beautiful traditional settlement. And this disaster was accompanied by a death,” he said and recalled a Church hymn calling for “God’s protection from the terrible threat of the earthquake.” He then added that all properties and the churches damaged can be rebuilt.
