Athens International Airport wishes travellers ‘Happy Chinese New Year’

Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” (AIA) and Air China will be partnering to celebrate the Chinese New Year this month, it was announced on Wednesday during an event at the AIA inviting passengers to get acquainted with the culture, music, and culinary tradition of China.

The celebrations for the New Year, which opens “the year of the pig” representing home and the family in Chinese tradition, will run from February 5 to February 20. During this period, travellers at the airport will get the chance to meet AIA Chinese mascot “Lucky Zhu” (Zhu lèlè), who will be welcoming travellers or seeing them off by wishing them “Chunjié kuàilè” (Happy Chinese New Year).

On behalf of Air China, General Manager of the Athens office Fan Heyun said: “2019 is the year of the Golden Pig for the Chinese, one of the most auspicious years in the 12-year cycle. We are very happy to attest that the AIA is constantly working towards making the airport friendlier to Chinese nationals.” He added that “Athens has become one of the most popular destination for Chinese tourists,” and thanked the AIA for helping Chinese tourists feel at home in Greece.
