Athens Mayor Kaminis condemns targeting of SYRIZA MPs

City of Athens Mayor George Kaminis issued a statement on Wednesday condemning unequivocally the “shameful posters” that appeared in Northern Greece, targeting SYRIZA members of parliament who have stated they will vote in favour of the Prespes Agreement.

Kaminis said that the posters “are a blow to democracy and a grave violation of an MP’s constitutional right to express their opinions freely and vote according to their conscience,” Kaminis wrote, and called on progressive politicians to condemn phenomena of this kind.

The statement comes one day after Greek police arrested four people in the cities of Grevena and Kozani, for publicly hanging posters containing pictures of SYRIZA MPs overwritten with the words “Will you betray Macedonia?”.
