Authorities apprehend escaped Turkish convicts near Evros border

Greek border police in Evros on Tuesday apprehended two escaped Turkish convicts that had fled from the Kassandra farm prison in Halkidiki last week.

The two men, aged 24 and 33 years old, respectively, were spotted passing through the Monastiraki area on foot at 4:00 on Tuesday morning. Police believe they were attempting to cross the border into Turkey through an unguarded point on the Greek-Turkish border.

Both were serving life sentences for migrant trafficking in the northern Aegean and had escaped from the loosely guarded minimum security prison last Thursday.
