Bank of Greece: Greek bank deposits up 7.5 pct in June

Bank deposits by Greek enterprises and households grew by 1.35 billion euros in June, totaling 129.4 billion euros, up 7.5 pct compared with the same month last year, the Bank of Greece said on Wednesday.

In a monthly report, the central bank said that deposits by enterprises grew by 272 million euros in June, after an increase of 580 million in May, for an annual growth rate of 12.6 pct (13.1 pct in May). Deposits by non-financial enterprises grew by 826 million euros in June, after an increase of 747 million euros in May, while deposits by insurance enterprises and other financial institutions fell by 554 million euros in June, after a decline of 167 million euros the previous month.

Funding to the private sector fell 1.2 pct in June, with the total outstanding value of loans falling to 178.9 billion euros from 179.3 billion a month earlier. However, the monthly net flow of total funding to the private sector was positive by 1.005 billion euros after a negative flow of 279 million in May. The annual rate of change was -0.4 pct in June from -1.6 pct in May.
