Bears wake up from hibernation at Arcturos sanctuary in Nymfaio

The waking of the bears as they come out of hibernation is the forerunner of spring at the Arcturos wildlife sanctuary in Nymfaio, northern Greece each year.

As the snows start to thaw, the 14 bears at the sanctuary gradually emerge from their dens, with the youngest bears, which are already up and wandering about the compound, usually waking first.

Now that the bears are up, the santuary will be open to the public again from Thursday, March 15. It is open every day of the week except Wednesday, between the hours of 10:00 to 16:30.
