Building materials’ prices fell 1.7 pct in September 2016

Building materials’ prices fell 1.7 pct in September this year, compared with the same month in 2015, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

The statistics service, in a report, said the building materials’ price index was down 1.9 pct in the 2015-2014 period. The index eased 0.1 pct in September from August 2016, after a 0.2 pct decline recorded in the same period last year. The September fall reflected a decline in steel pipes (8.6 pct), diesel oil (3.0 pct), tiles (2.9 pct), cement (2.3 pct), plastic pipes (2.1 pct), electricity (1.5 pct), bath tabs (1.4 pct), aluminium doors (1.1 pct), while prices rose in locks (1.0 pct).

The new home building price category index fell 1.4 pct in the third quarter of 2016 compared with the same period last year, after a 3.1 pct decline recorded in the 2015-2014 period, the statistics service said.
