Charitsis: ‘Government’s bill hampers citizens’ access to cheap, clean energy’

Main opposition party SYRIZA spokesman Alexis Charitsis on Wednesday criticized the government’s energy policy bill – which also concerns the future of the country’s Public Power Corporation (PPC) – and said that “the government only wants to serve the oligopoly of private interests and sell off state-owned energy infrastructure that is critical to the country’s productivity overhaul.”

Charitsis added that the government “cedes the entire 65 pct of the state’s share to private interests (…) including natural gas distribution networks,” and he charged that “it has no plan for the workers (…) or for ensuring the development of natural gas distribution networks.”

He also noted that the New Democracy government “is heading towards PPC’s privatization (…) thus hampering citizens’ access to cheap, clean energy.”
