Christmas sales up by 2.0-2.5 pct, not by double digits, trade board head says

Sales rose by 2.0-2.5 pct over Christmas, not in the double digits, president of the Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) Vassilios Korkidis said in a twitter he posted.

“Anyone who thinks Christmas turnover came to a utopian 20-25 pct is probably missing the decimal point, since 2.0-2.5 pct is more realistic,” he noted. “The (former) percentages are nonexistent in the Greek market, and if they did exist, would constitute a Christmas miracle,” he added.

Stores will be open to evening again, without break, throughout the week, while on Sunday they will be open to 6:00 p.m., with larger stores and malls extending open hours to 7 or 8 p.m., depending on individual company decisions.

Stores will shut down on January 1 and 2.
