Igoumenitsa Coast Guard intercepted the illegal transfer of 70 Iraqis from the coastal town of Parga (northwestern Greece) to Italy.
Six Ukrainian and Iraqi nationals were arrested alleged to be involved in the migrants and refugees trafficking.
Coast Guard officers that were patrolling the area spotted a freighter that was sailing towards the beach of Ai Giannakis, Parga where a Ukrainian-flagged sailing boat was anchored.
The officers waited until the migrants and refugees got on board and afterwards they intervened and arrested them.
Most of the migrants and refugees were families with children from Iraq among them some that had asylum.
The sailing boat was confiscated.
