Coast guard rescues migrants on boat adrift off Samothrace

The Greek coast guard rescued 31 foreign nationals in the sea region around the island of Samothrace on Monday.

The rescue operation was mounted after a coast guard patrol vessel spotted a dinghy adrift east of the island with 31 persons on board. The migrants were transferred to Alexandroupolis port and afterwards they were arrested because they did not have legal travel documents.

The boat was confiscated and the Alexandroupolis port authority is conducting and investigation.
