It is time to adopt a common and effective European policy on asylum, EU Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs Dimitris Avramopoulos said on Thursday in doorstep comments at the JHA Council, Luxembourg.
Regarding the strengthening of the Common European Asylum System, he said that he would make an appeal so that all member states provide with the technical support and the human resources.
“Our objective is to stop illegal migration at the borders of Europe. In order to achieve it, we have to: enhance and deepen cooperation with third countries, like Turkey (where the EU-Turkey deal works properly); and, of course, to implement our Compact Partnership Packages with African countries,” he underlined.
“It is very very clear and all member states must take their share of responsibilities and prove it by implementing what we have discussed and decided on relocation and resettlement,” he concluded.
