Connection between TAP and TANAP pipelines completed at Greek-Turkish border

The connection between the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) was successfully completed with the final “golden weld”, TAP announced on Wednesday.

The golden weld took place at the Greek-Turkish border, in front of representatives from TAP and TANAP.

This marks another significant milestone in the completion of the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC), the announcement continued. The SGC will bring natural gas from Shah Deniz II gas field in the Caspian Sea to Turkey and, subsequently, to European markets.

Luca Schieppati, Managing Director of TAP said: “I am very pleased that another historic step forward was taken this month. The connection between TAP and TANAP shows that we are moving towards the completion of the SGC which, according to our schedule, will be delivering gas to Europe by 2020. I would like to thank TANAP, the authorities and governments involved, as well as all those involved in making this connection a reality.”
