Corruption prosecutors investigate doctors, lawyers in Floros case

Corruption prosecutors said on Tuesday they will investigate doctors and lawyers involved in the early release of jailed embezzler Aristidis Floros on the basis of forged medical documents.

Floros, who was convicted last year to a 21 year sentence for embezzling money connected to Energa power company, was released last week due to severe health problems. On Monday, the doctor that signed off on the paperwork confirming Floros’ health problems admitted to police that he faked the health certificate to make his condition look worse than what it actually is. The doctor claims to have done so without receiving any form of financial benefit from Floros.

Corruption prosecutors also said that this investigation may be broadened to include reviews of other prisoners that were also released from jail on the grounds of suffering from severe health problems.
