Council of State rejects full payback of ESY doctors’ wages

The Council of State plenary on Monday rejected the appeal of 4,673 doctors in the National Health System (ESY) for retroactive backpay of wages cut from August 2012 to the end of 2018.

In 2018, the Council ruled that the wage cuts to all doctors had been unconstitutional, but it only called for the backpay of lost wages of four doctors in ESY, cut as of August 2012. The 4,673 doctors working at hospitals and health centers throughout Greece wanted the same decision applied to them.

In rejecting the appeal, the country’s highest administrative court said the wages of all but the four doctors should be repaid as of February 28, 2018 – the date of the publication of its decision, not retroactively since August 2012.
